Vegetable crops and administrative programs. Mike
has been an advisor in the office since 1979. He has programmatic responsibilities for all
vegetables (processing tomatoes, vegetable seeds, miscellaneous vegetables). Murray also
has responsibilities for vegetable seed extension programs in Glenn County. Additionally,
Mike serves as County Director and is the primary liaison between county government and
UC, as well as between DANR and the local office. His research emphases include varietal
evaluations, the use of plant growth regulators in agricultural systems, pest management,
new or alternate crop development, analysis of extension and technology-transfer systems,
and community development programs.

Pomology program- John has been on-staff since 1984.
His programmatic responsibilities include almonds, walnuts, prunes, wine grapes and other
perennial crops. Additionally, John has responsibilities for the CE almond programs in
Sutter and Yuba Counties. His research emphases include micro-irrigation of perennials,
the development of non-chemical strategies for almond pest management, varietal
evaluations, orchard establishment under sub-optimal soil conditions and soil or plant
fertility. Additionally, John has the responsibilities for coordinating research
activities associated with the Leslie J. Nickels Research Facility, a 200 acre facility
located in Arbuckle that currently has in-excess of 20 collaborative projects involving
DANR county and Experiment Station faculty.

Agronomy program- Jerry has been on the Colusa CE
staff since 1998, and was assigned to the Lassen County CE office from 1981-1998. His
programmatic responsibilities include sugar beets, dry beans, wheat, oil seed crops and
alfalfa. Jerry also has responsibilities for CE sugar beet programs in Glenn, Sutter and
Yuba Counties. He has research interests in weed management, distance learning and
electronic information delivery systems.

4-H club programs & FSNEP- Liz has a 0.75 FTE Program
Representative and a 0.25 FTE FSNEP assignment in the Colusa Office. She has been in this
position since 1993. She was formerly a high school home economics teacher. Liz has
responsibilities for managing the county 4-H clubs, under the programmatic supervision of
Sutter/Yuba Youth Advisor Isela Valdez. There are currently six active clubs in the
county, with over 350 members and 87 adult volunteers. Liz has retained an interest in
home economics or nutrition and emphasizes these programmatic areas in the club
activities.
